Questions and Answers

Before you start your fishing holiday, you might have some questions about the excursions. Here's some information that may help.

1. Where do we board the boat?

There are two harbours in Puerto Rico, and our boat is moored in the Puerto Escala harbour - the one right next to Puerto Rico beach.

2. What if I've never fished before?

Fishing in Gran Canaria is fun regardless of your level of experience. Our Captain and Crew with their wealth of experience will guide you through the secrets of fishing.

3. What type of fish can I expect to catch?

Take a look at our fishing seasons chart. Here you can see what you've got more chance of catching in each month of the year.

4. What type of fishing is done according to the season?

We do a combination of trolling and bottom fishing all year round. If our clients wish, in the months of June to September we can do trolling all through the day in order to catch Blue Marlins, White Marlins, Bonito, etc.

5. Can I go out fishing every day?

We go out every day except Sunday. Our boat is also unavailable for the whole month of May - our Captain and Crew need a holiday!

6. What do I have to bring with me?

You've got everything you need on board with regards to fishing equipment and bait. It is advisable that you bring sun cream, sun glasses, a sun hat and above all...a sense of humour!

7. Can I bring non-fishing friends or family with me?

Of course! They can sunbathe, take photos, enjoy the fight between the fishermen and their catch, and with a bit of luck they might even get to see dolphins, turtles, or flying fish!

8. Is a fishing license required?

No. The boat has a license that covers all of its passengers.

9. How far do you go out to sea?

This depends on the fishing season and the weather conditions. The journey in the boat can be anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. In summer, if you want to go trolling for Marlin, then the boat keeps going until you get a bite and then that's when the battle commences!

10. Can I take my catch home with me?

Yes, as long as it's an edible fish. We tend to return the rays and sharks back to the sea.

11. Who cleans the fish that we catch?

That's up to you. Some of the clients like to take the fish that they have caught just as they are, and others prefer for us to the clean them for them. Most of our clients prefer not to take their catch with them - that's why our Captain eats a lot of fish at home!

12. What happens if the trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

This doesn't happen very often in the Canary Islands. But, if it does, we can change the trip to another day.
